Kamala Harris returns to the stage: same attacks, same script

Kamala Harris has decided to reemerge from her post-election silence by doing what she does best: attacking Donald Trump in front of a pre-approved audience, in a San Francisco that seems increasingly detached from the rest of the country.

At a fundraising event for progressive donors, the former vice president pointed fingers at Trump’s economic policies, calling them “a selfish agenda” and accusing him of “punishing truth-tellers.” Strong words, but devoid of self-awareness—almost as if her disastrous vice presidency left no mark.

In a perfectly scripted speech, Harris spoke of a looming “constitutional crisis,” painting dystopian scenarios while the re-elected president continues to enjoy popular support that she never came close to earning in 2024. No mention of the border chaos, the inflation surge under their administration, or foreign policy failures.

She accused Trump of “inviting a recession” with his tariffs, conveniently ignoring that his protectionist policies have revitalized domestic industry and reduced reliance on China. For Harris, defending American economic borders may be a cardinal sin, but for millions of workers, it’s economic salvation.

Using dramatic tones, she warned of a supposed authoritarian drift, while praising figures like Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez—champions of an ideology aimed at dismantling traditional institutions in the name of radical progressivism.

The setting for her speech? The gilded Palace Hotel—an apt symbol for a progressive elite that preaches equality from their ivory towers. There, Harris repeated that “courage is contagious,” while ignoring the fact that fear and insecurity are growing precisely in the cities governed by her political allies.

Pressed about a potential run for California governor or even another presidential bid in 2028, Harris remained vague. Ambiguity, after all, seems to be the only terrain she still navigates with confidence. Between selfies, honorary awards, and Broadway cameos, Harris is trying to reclaim the spotlight, while her own party’s base looks far from enthusiastic. Polls are clear: her candidacy would be anything but “unifying.”

As the Democratic Party waits to see whether Harris will enter the race, her opponents are crafting real plans. Meanwhile, America moves forward: fewer slogans, more substance.
