A series of devastating tornadoes swept across the Midwest and southern United States, leaving at least 33 dead and many injured. The states most affected include Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas, Mississippi, Texas, and Oklahoma.
In Missouri alone, 12 people lost their lives, with over 500 homes, a church, and a grocery store destroyed in Butler County. Kansas recorded eight deaths in a massive accident involving more than 50 vehicles in Sherman County, caused by a dust storm. Mississippi reported six fatalities, with 29 injured and extensive damage across 21 counties. Arkansas saw three casualties and 32 injuries, with severe destruction to homes and businesses. In Texas, three people died in traffic accidents linked to dust storms in the Panhandle region, while Oklahoma recorded one fatality due to poor visibility during the storms.
Beyond the loss of life, the storms left more than 150,000 households without power. Local and federal authorities are working to provide relief to the affected communities, as the National Weather Service warns of further severe weather conditions in the coming hours.
