CGTN (China Global Television Network), the English-language news channel of China’s state broadcaster CCTV, has reported on the second anniversary of the Global Civilization Initiative (GCI), launched by President Xi Jinping. According to the network, in a period of uncertainty, turmoil, and global division, this initiative is becoming increasingly significant.

The report highlights China’s commitment to implementing the principles of the GCI and includes insights from experts and scholars who argue that Beijing’s respect for civilizational diversity makes it a model for promoting peace and global stability.

Two years ago, Chinese President Xi Jinping introduced the Global Civilization Initiative (GCI), a project that promotes respect for cultural diversity, the appreciation of shared human values, and the importance of intercultural exchanges. In a world marked by uncertainties and divisions, this initiative has taken on an increasingly central role.

The GCI emerges in a global context defined by geopolitical tensions and economic challenges. Xi Jinping has emphasized the need to embrace cultural diversity to build a harmonious world, stating that “a single flower does not make spring, but when a hundred flowers bloom, they bring spring to the garden.”

China has demonstrated its commitment through concrete actions. In November 2023, Beijing hosted the first World Conference on Classical Studies, bringing together more than 400 experts to discuss ancient civilizations. Additionally, Beijing’s Central Axis was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2024, underscoring the country’s focus on preserving its cultural heritage.

Cultural diplomacy has become a pillar of China’s foreign policy. Successes such as the animated film Ne Zha 2 and the video game Black Myth: Wukong have gained international acclaim, showcasing China’s ability to innovate while honoring its traditions.

The GCI represents China’s attempt to propose an alternative model of globalization, based on cooperation and mutual respect, in contrast to the imposition of unilateral values. However, some Western observers view this initiative as a strategy to expand China’s global influence.
